New Chair appointed

Rev'd Dr Moira Biggins welcomed to role

Rev'd Dr Moira BigginsIn Autumn 2016 the Chair of Workplace Chaplaincy in Derbyshire (WCD) -  the Rev'd Dr. John Davies (Dean of Derby Cathedral) took up a new appointment as the Dean of Wells Cathedral leaving a vacancy to be filled.

WCD is an Ecumenical voluntary organisation which deploys Lay and Ordained volunteer workplace chaplains throughout the County of Derbyshire and its Council members are happy to share with you the good news of a Chair being appointed.

The Rev'd Dr Moira Biggins BSc, PhD, CEng, CITP,MBCS, MWES has been appointed for a 3 year renewable term and took up the post on May 1st 2017.

We look forward to working in partnership with Moira as our Chair, recognising that she brings a wealth of experience of the working environment and of chaplaincy, having been a member of the East Midlands Airport Chaplaincy Team for several years. Her understanding of Workplace Chaplaincy in Derbyshire as a voluntary organisation has been obtained through her membership of the Managing body WCD Council.

Moira will no doubt help us to build on WCD's past and the valuable work it does with a view to developing this work further to meet the needs of the many people involved in a changing pattern of work.

Moira writes: -

"After six years at university studying computer science, I spent over 35 years working in a variety of IT roles. These were in a range of organisations: academia, private industry, charity, a small consultancy and multi-national corporations. The relationship between faith and working life has always been a major interest of mine.

"In 2003, while continuing to work full-time in IT, I became a non-stipendiary Methodist minister in Derby. That role included being one of the chaplains at East Midlands Airport. I was also appointed as the Methodist representative to the council of Industrial Mission in Derbyshire, as Workplace Chaplaincy in Derbyshire was then known.

"I was made redundant from my IT role in 2016 and am now serving full-time as a Methodist minister. My passion for chaplaincy remains as strong as ever. During my years on the Council, I have been thrilled to see the expansion of the work in both city and county. I believe that chaplaincy is a key element of God’s mission in the 21st century."

WCD welcomes Moira as the first Methodist Chair and we pray that in this new partnership we experience God's blessing and guidance during her term of office.
